Meet, yes. But never let your guard down.
Meeting new people is an exciting experience, but it's essential to stay vigilant and prioritize your safety. Whether you're exchanging messages or planning to meet in person, trust your instincts and take the following precautions.
During online discussions
Six simple habits that help you avoid the vast majority of bad encounters.
Never share sensitive information
Avoid sharing your Social Security number, your address, or details about your daily routine: this is information that people with malicious intent could use. If you're a parent, be especially careful about what you share regarding your children, including their names, their schools, and their ages.
Never send money
Never send money to anyone you meet on Chat&Yamo, no matter what the situation. Requests for money, even under the pretext of an emergency, are often signs of a scam. Online transactions are difficult to reverse, and it is almost impossible to recover the funds you've sent.
Communicate only on the platform
Chat on Chat&Yamo until you feel comfortable. Some users with bad intentions try to lure you away from the platform to communicate via text message, phone, or email. By staying here, you remain protected by the app.
Be careful with long-distance relationships
Be wary of international dating scams, especially people who claim to be from your country but are actually abroad and ask for financial help to return home. If someone consistently refuses to meet you or have a video chat, that's a red flag.
Protect Your Account
Choose a strong password and avoid logging in from public or shared computers. Chat&Yamo will never ask for your password via email. If you receive any suspicious messages, report them immediately.
Report any suspicious behavior
If you feel that someone is crossing the line, block them and report them, either from their profile or from the messaging window. We take these reports very seriously.
For an in-person meeting
Meeting in person is the most important step. Don't rush it, and stay alert.
Don't be in a hurry
Take the time to get to know the person and ask questions that give you insight into their personality. A phone call or video chat is a great way to get to know them before meeting in person.
Choose a public place
For a first date, choose a lively place: a café, a restaurant, or a park. Avoid your home, the other person's home, and any private location. If the person insists on a secluded spot, end the date.
Let your friends or family know
Before you leave, tell a family member or friend where you're going and what time you plan to be back. Make sure your phone is charged and within reach.
Stay in control of your movements
You should be able to leave whenever you want. Have a Plan B ready: a ride-sharing app, or a friend who can pick you up. Never rely on someone else to get you home.
Be aware of your limits
Alcohol and drugs impair judgment and alertness. If your date pressures you to drink or use more than you want to, stand your ground and end the date.
Never leave your drink or your belongings unattended
Only accept drinks served by the bartender or waiter. Many substances can be added without you realizing it. Also, keep an eye on your phone and your bag.
Listen to your instincts
If you ever feel uncomfortable, end the date. If something seems strange, ask the staff for help. Your safety is the top priority.
When you travel
Chat&Yamo respects all genders and sexual orientations. However, not all countries are safe places for the LGBTQ+ community, and some regions criminalize sexual orientation.
Check local laws
Before you leave, find out about the laws regarding LGBTQ+ rights and the legal protections available. This will help you assess the risks and make an informed decision.
Adjust your profile settings
In a high-risk area, turn off the "Show my profile" option in the upper-right corner of the home screen. If you've specified a sexual orientation, we'll hide that information until you're out of the high-risk area.
Be careful with what you say
In countries with restrictive laws, some law enforcement agencies use dating apps to set traps for users, and some laws criminalize same-sex communications. The penalties can be severe.
Find out about the resources available
The ILGA World website provides up-to-date information on the status of LGBTQ+ rights in each country.
Sexual Health and Consent
Sexual health helps you build healthy and fulfilling relationships. Take care of your own sexual health and respect mutual consent in all your interactions.
Protect Yourself
The correct and consistent use of condoms is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting an STI, including HIV. Some STIs, such as herpes or HPV, are transmitted through skin-to-skin contact: vaccination, particularly against HPV, reduces this risk.
Get tested regularly
Not all STIs have visible symptoms. Stay informed about your health and help prevent their spread by visiting a testing center.
Consent must always be verified
If any of you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you are not able to give informed consent.
You can report any suspicious behavior directly from a profile or from your messaging window. Every report is reviewed, and actions range from a warning to permanent account deletion.
With these tips, you can enjoy your experience on Chat&Yamo with peace of mind. Safety is always a priority: take the time to get to know the people you're chatting with, and never hesitate to report suspicious behavior.
